I was recently on holiday in Cornwall. It’s a beautiful part of the world. Blue seas. Delightful coves. Awesome scenery. A truly magical place.
When we arrived I said to my partner “I could live here! Imagine waking up to that view every day!”
After a week I was used to the view. I had eaten dinner in each of the two restaurants in the village twice. I’d had lovely coffee in the café almost every day. The smell of the sea was normal now.
It’s funny how we get used to things. Whether good or bad we quickly adapt and what was extraordinary becomes ordinary in no time at all.
But that’s not a surprise. That’s normal.
We need rain to appreciate sunshine. We need hardship to appreciate success. We need pain to experience pleasure.
Yin and Yang. Everything in balance. Otherwise there is no enjoyment because everything is just ordinary.
You can have enough of even the most perfect things.
