Often the easiest way to increase income is actually to get rid of expenditure. Go through your bank and credit card statements and cancel those things that you don’t need or that are way too expensive or that have got out of control. How many TV subscriptions do you have? What do you actually watch? The ones that you don’t – get rid of them! Is 1 programme or series every month worth a £15 subscription? And don’t forget that most subscription services let you stop and start at will, so if you cancel for a few months, save the money, then take out the subscription again while you binge all the stuff you wanted to watch over a couple of months before cancelling again, you can save hundreds of pounds a year! It just needs you to pay attention to what you watch, what you pay and take the opportunity to shift your subscriptions rather than adding to them every time.
The same goes for other subscriptions. Do you have a gym membership that you don’t use? What about that magazine subscription that you don’t read as often as you used to?
Things like AA or RAC membership that have been running for years are inevitably more expensive than they need to be. Switch them and save.
I seriously think that most households who look at their underused subscriptions could save around £500 – £1,000 a year just by changing how they use the things that they subscribe to!
