ENOUGH OPINIONS

Everyone’s idea of enough is their own. There are no right or wrong definitions. No correct or incorrect numbers. Whatever is your idea of enough is the right idea.

And avoid listening to anyone who tells you that you’ve got it wrong. They aren’t you and they are not entitled to have an opinion on what you think of as enough.

Someone else telling you that you need a bigger house is just their opinion of what you need. Not yours. And their advice should be treated like you’d treat a drunk relative who tells you that they think your partner is ugly and not good enough for you.

By all means don’t close yourself off to knowledge and useful information that you can use to guide you in making the best decisions. But opinions are seldom either of those things. And you can normally tell the difference a mile off!

A good litmus test is to ask yourself where information is coming from. Is it coming from someone who has travelled the path that you want to travel and has experience or is it coming from someone who has never set foot near where you want to go? Consider the advice that we take from (say) a financial adviser. I would always ask where they have their money invested? How much have they returned on their own investments in the last (say) five years? Those with a track record and a provable portfolio of success have what I would count as knowledge and experience that I can learn something from.

Opinions are like buttocks. We all have them, but it is not always the best idea to air them in public!
